Redipuglia military memorial, designed by Architect Giovanni Greppi and sculptor Giannino Castiglioni, was opened in 1938 as a WWI memorial site. It consists of three parts: the via Eroica, the square and the burial area. It is the largest and most impressive Italian military memorial dedicated to the victims of WWI and one of the largest in the world.
The Memorial is structured on three levels along the hillside of Monte Sei Busi, were are entombed over a hundred thousand soldiers died in the surrounding area ( hence the Italian name ‘dei Centomila’).
The restoration project was made in three phases: first, the site’s degradation was systematically assessed, then a rainwater drainage system was implemented and finally original floors was re-installed.
